Catching up....again!

OK, I know 5 months is WAY too long for an update but things are never dull around here :) I am officially the worst blogger to-date!


So what have we been up to? A LOT! So I'll start out with the most exciting news first....Grey has a new "cousin" Sutton (Amanda and Patrick) who is just beautiful! She is so sweet and easy-going...ahhh what a joy! Erica and Daniel also had another "cousin", Hayes, who we are excited to meet! We are also going to have another new cousin (Noah) in October (Uncle Tim and Aunt Shelly). It will be so much fun with all the new cousins to play with!


This summer has been very eventful! Grey is getting so big! He moved to the toddler room at school and loves it! He gets to play outside everyday ("side" as he calls it) and comes home daily with new artwork. He's learned to march (he only lifts one leg :) ), go in circles and walk backwards. He also dances if you ask him to. It's too cute! I tried to video tape it but he gets too distracted by the camera. My favorite is when he sings. You can't make out what he is singing but he is pretty consistent with what he says so I know it must be some song he is trying to sing :) What it is, we may never know but that's okay! He recently started singing "I like to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas". He says "eat, eat, eat" clearly but the rest is a little fuzzy. He does his sign language for "eat" too when he sings it. I think he likes that he can sing that song :)

He is still obsessed with "puppies" and we even make trips to PetSmart just to see them. I think he says "puppy" about 500 times a day and somehow finds every puppy on t.v., in books, magazines, etc. He also loves to make animal noises (i.e. lions, cats, puppies, monkeys, roosters, ducks, horses). When we read books now, he takes our finger and points to an animal and says "That?" and we have to tell him what every animal is. At times I have to make up the name because I don't even know what it's suppose to be :)

He is starting to love baths now and will squirt me and Dan with his water bottle ("pow pow"). That seems to be his favorite bath toy these days - go figure. He also tells me and Dan to "sit" so we can throw balls to each other. He just laughs and laughs when we do this.

A few weeks ago Grey and I went to the Aquarium with some of our friends (Sutton, Beckett, Margo, Hannah, and Ryan). He was a little nervous at first but got the hang of it quickly. We went through the whole thing and I could tell he didn't want to leave so Amanda, Sutton, Grey and I went back into the main area that had all the birds and monkeys and look around again. He loved the monkeys! He also loved the fact that it was empty enough that he got to walk around at his own pace too...we zoomed by some animals and spent 10 minutes looking at others :) He crashed on the way home! I don't think I drove for more than 2 minutes before he fell asleep. We had a fun day and can't wait to take Dan back with us next time!

Labor Day weekend we went to Turtle Creek to feed the ducks. That was another fun day! He kept saying "Quack, quack" the whole time we were feeding the ducks. There was one FAT duck that would get real close to the creek bank, which Grey thought was great because then he could really throw the bread to him. The other ducks would come and go, but this one stayed around. He was smart :)

Grey also got his first "professional" haircut last Monday (aka. not a haircut by me). He liked playing with the toys while we waiting for his turn but as soon as we had to put him in the chair he started crying. Even a dum dum didn't work! He stayed in the chair the whole time but didn't ease up once on the crying. Hopefully next time he will like it more :) He looks handsome (and older) with the new hair do.

(Ahh, it feels good to kind of get caught up on this :) I will try to be better about updates!)

Just some pictures and stories

Here are some random pictures and stories of Grey from the past two months. Since I've been terrible about updating the blog, I thought it might just be easier to post everything at once.

I guess it must have been at least a few months ago Grey's class went on a buggy ride. Grey was sitting next to Azure in the buggy and Ms. Nancy said that he nonchalantly reached over and grabbed her hand and held it the whole buggy ride. What a flirt he is already!

Then last week, the teachers told me they thought Grey was going to be a football player because he and his friend Jackson were throwing a ball and then chasing after it. Ms. Veronica said that one time Grey crawled and tackled the ball before Jackson could even get there. He definitely is not afraid of anything!

So for a few days, Grey was getting bad report cards saying that he was being aggressive towards his friends. I was thinking, "Great, I've got the kid that's going to be the biter in the group." About a week later, his report said "Grey is learning to play and give back toys to his friends." Although this was meant to be a compliment, they were still saying that he is continuing to take toys away from friends....just giving them back now. Never dull! We are working on being gentle and sharing.

Tonight after school Grey, Spencer and I went on a quick walk. Grey had to hold Spencer's leash (with my help) as we walked literally two houses down and back. He thought it was great that he was the one holding the leash. Spencer did good - I think he was too nervous to go crazy because he knew Grey was in charge :)

Grey's Walking!

On February 27, Grey took his first few steps. I was standing in the kitchen and Grey had crawled in to say "hi" (he really comes into rooms and goes "Hi".) He stood up holding onto the wall and then took 2-3 steps towards me. At first I couldn't believe it! I knew he was close to walking but he also likes to make sure he can really do something before he makes the jump (i.e. standing without holding on to my pant leg). We have been practicing walking a lot - he makes me take him in circles from the living room, down the hall, through the kitchen and dining room, and back into the living room. I think we have made that loop a million times in the past few months!

Since then, he has started taking more and more steps before he plops down and starts crawling. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he is running with his determination!

Takin' Care of Business

So Grey's new thing is to play "business" while we work. He takes his pens (or in the case below - highlighters) and take notes on his pads of paper or his coloring book. When Dan is studying for schools, he will crawl into the back bedroom and sit on his lap and make "notes" in Dan's school books or class notes. It's funny because Grey is very serious when he is writing. He will start on one page, scribble a little bit, flip to the next, sigh, and then go back to the first page like he forgot to write something.

Grey stayed home one day while I was having to work so I set him up with a bunch of pens and paper. I look over a little later and he has highlighter all over his face! We had to take a shower before Dad got home to hide the evidence, although I ended up showing Dan the pictures later anyway :)

Let it snow, let it snow

We got 11 inches of snow in one day - a new record for Dallas! We woke up to it snowing and we went to bed (late) with it snowing. Grey didn't really get to enjoy it because he was getting over being sick and we didn't want him to get more sick. Dan and I played in it a little bit after Grey went to bed. It was really pretty when it first snowed but I was ready for it to get warmer because it was SO cold! I think I had on 5 layers of clothes and I was still cold outside. I don't know how people up North do it....I enjoy the sun way too much!

Grey's ONE!

I can't believe that Grey is already one year old! I can still remember driving at 6 am to the hospital on January 27 last year. It's been amazing to see him grow up and how quickly he learns new things! I can't imagine our lives without him - he is such a precious boy and brings so much laughter to our lives!

For his birthday we had family and friends over to celebrate with food, cake and ice cream. At first he was a little shy with everyone over, but that lasted about 2 minutes. It was funny watching him play with the other kids because he definitely did not want them to be playing with "his" toys. Every time someone would be playing with his toy, Grey would decide that he wanted to play with it now (we are working on sharing :) ).

He thought it was great when we all sang "Happy Birthday" to him and smiled the whole time. He liked being the center of attention (surprise, surprise). He didn't want any cake, though. He tried a few bites but didn't really like it all that much. I think his mom and dad enjoyed the cake much more - we ate about 1/3 of it ourselves over the next day or so. Finally we had to just throw the rest of it away because we kept eating it!

He was more enthralled with the ribbons on the presents than the presents themselves. We could have all bought him ribbon and he would have thought that was fabulous! We had fun at the party and thank everyone for sharing it with us!

It's weird to think that he is not a baby anymore! At the age of one:
1. He crawls faster than any kid in class and it's hard to catch him sometimes. His teachers say they will set him down and if they turn away, he is across the room before they even realize it.
2. He has 8 teeth but still prefers to eat baby food unless he gets to eat what we are eating (pizza with Ranch is his favorite).
3. He is almost about to take off walking any day.
4. He can say "Momma", "Dada", "Uh oh" and "Hi".
5. His smile and laugh are contagious and can light up a room.

We just love him so much!! I can't wait to see my little man continue to grow up :)
