Doctor Visits

So I'm a little late in getting this blog up and running, so I thought I would just start by giving a brief update on what has been going on the past few months with the baby. I'll keep updating this posting as we keep seeing the doctor.

3 Months
At three months old we got to see the little one for the first time. He/she was about 2 inches long from head to buns (exactly 5.17 cm) and had a strong heartbeat. Dr. Francis said that it's going to be tall because the baby was already measuring 3 days in advance (12 weeks versus 11 1/2 weeks).

4 Months
The baby is very active in the sonogram pictures but I still can not feel it move. We really weren't scheduled to have a sonogram during this visit but Dr. Francis went ahead and let us "play" with the machine. She did normal pictures as well as a few 3-D pictures. Because the baby has no fat yet, the baby looks a little like Skelator :)

5 Months
During this visit Dr. Francis could have told us if we were going to have a boy or girl but since we had already decided we wanted to wait to find out, we had to turn our heads. I was waiting for Dan to sneak a peak, but he didn't :) We got a few new sonogram pictures but the baby didn't want to cooperate so we only got to see it's back. I am able to feel the baby kick every now and then....I think it likes my oatmeal because it's very active around 9:30-10:30 a.m.

We had a brief visit with the doctor this time because I'm about to switch doctors. Dan and I are going to meet Dr. Carter (the new doctor) October 14 and we will be able to take more pictures of the baby. He/she actually let us see him/her face and wasn't camera shy this time :)

So Dan and I met with Dr. Carter on Tuesday. We are excited that we were able to find a doctor we both liked so quickly! The baby was kicking up a storm during this visit. During the sonogram, you could see him/her kicking and elbowing me the whole time. We got to see the face up close and the baby was already making facial expressions and opening and closing his/her mouth. The cheeks on the baby are incredible! You can tell he/she hasn't missed a meal :) The baby already weighs 2.1 lbs. and according to the weekly emails I get about the baby's development, he/she should be around 1.5 lbs. This is going to be a big baby I have a feeling!
(check out the fat cheeks!)

The baby is still measuring further along than it should (26 weeks, 2 days vs. 25 weeks, 2 days). The doctor again said he/she has long legs which I agree with since I feel him/her kicking me constantly! The heartbeat was 142 bmp, which was stronger than the last time but it could be because he/she was getting a workout moving around that much. Overall the baby is very healthy and we are getting really excited about finally meeting him/her!

7 Months
I'm finally entering the last trimester - yippee! Starting this month I am seeing the doctor every two weeks instead of monthly. There is not too much to report this month except that the baby is growing very quickly. He/she weighed 3.2 lbs. on November 5 and has gained 1.1 lbs. in 3 weeks!! :) It could be because Mommy is definitly not skipping any meals, snacks, late night snacks, ice cream deserts....the list goes on. Especially since I'm working from home now, I have access to food all day - can't be good!
On November 11 I went back to the doctor for a routine check-up. I met Dr. Harris this time and will meet with Dr. Carter again in two weeks. I found out that my sugar levels were good so I'm not diabetic. I also had sufficient iron in my blood stream (the same amount as a non-pregnant person) which Dr. Harris said was very good! The baby's heart rate was around 150 bmp the nurse said, which is faster than it was last time.
8 Months
I have begun to go to the doctor weekly, in which they do routine check-ups. This entails checking my weight gain (never fun), the baby's heartbeat, measuring of my belly growth and then meeting with the doctor.
At 8 1/2 months I did have a sonogram. The baby was 5.1 pounds and was measuring 6 days in advance for height. The baby kept opening it's mouth and had the hiccups. I never knew what I had been feeling when the baby had the hiccups - it feels like a heartbeat.
9 Months
On December 30 Dan and I went to the doctor for my weekly check-up. We met with Dr. Harris this time and will meet with Dr. Carter again next week. The baby's heart rate was around 130 and Dr. Harris said the baby has dropped. Nothing is happening yet though.
On January 16, I had another weekly check-up. Progress has begun :) and I was told that if I don't have the baby by January 27 (two days after my due date), he will induce me on this day. That means only 11 days at the most!!! I'm really excited to finally have a date set! I have the bags packed and we put the car seat in this week so I think we are set to go to the hospital at any minute if needed.

I forgot to take a picture during this month but my belly looks the same as month 9. The biggest growth was in my feet and how swollen they have become!
